                                        NY Times Opionator Article: Cavs Struggle 

 

           Growing up I've always been a very big fan of basketball, I love everything about it. While being a big fan of the sport I'm also a really big fan of watching it as well. With that being said the NBA is my favorite to watch and talk about to friends, family, etc. I have noticed over the years though that some of the articles are made solely to degrade a player or simply a team on its own, but Marc Stein seems to have done both at the same time. Simply put, if you are to use Lebron James name in any article you are going to attract a large following of people: the media will criticize Lebron James regardless of whether or not he is playing good or not. In this case, Lebron James team isn't playing well, but Lebron James himself is having an MVP type season.

 Marc Stein starts his article by calling the Cavs an "early season disappointment" and not only that but calls them "defensively challenged", knowing very well that he is about to make a lot of people very angry. Just from looking at those first two quotes you can already tell where this article is going, and the Cavs are in for a bashing. It's mind boggling to say the least, seeing as they are currently sitting at number 3 in the East and are clearly going to make the playoffs but because this is a Cavs article Marc Stein will not mention that. He goes on to quote Lebron James, quoting him completely out of proportion and making it seem that he's not as happy as he should be and then says "but who wants to argue with King James" to really put the viewers on edge.

Stein does however bring up good points in an article where clearly the idea was to bash the Cavs. He claims he realizes that the Cavs are clearly a championship team but that they shouldn't be playing at the level that they are. They have multiple all-stars on the team but are unable to win games that they should clearly be winning. He's absolutely correct. We as the viewers are left wondering if the Cavs will return back to the championship this year and whether or not they will return to their winning ways.

                                                                  Introduction                 The classes I had last semester involved me writing a lot in most of my assignments. The two biggest ones were Critical Reading and Sociology, Sociology being the most, which was very shocking for me.
