Blog Introduction Gavin Miller

                                                                Introduction

The classes I had last semester involved me writing a lot in most of my assignments. The two biggest ones were Critical Reading and Sociology, Sociology being the most, which was very shocking for me. In Sociology we had to complete a journal entry every week that included us writing up to 400 words each journal entry. At first I thought it would be really time consuming but most journals I did only took me up to ten or fifteen minutes to do so hopefully I am able to use that ability in this class. However, in Critical Reading I did a few projects that involved me writing up to about two or three pages.

I feel like I could be a strong and competent writer if I wanted to be, I just need to write more often than I'm currently doing right now. One of the things I've thought about getting into while searching for future jobs was journalism, I feel like it would be fun and I don't mind typing up articles or just writing in general. In my opinion there was never really much writing going on in high school besides doing a small research paper that involved MLA formatting (which was barely explained). Yet in college we are expected to write up to eight to ten pages in some classes which is a huge gap for someone coming straight out of high school.

I personally think I have a strong understanding of grammar and spelling, but I've realized when I turn in assignments that my grammar will be marked a lot. I hope I can fix those mistakes in the future because it does ruin my grades. Hopefully in this course I will be able to fix said problems and really improve on my overall writing abilities. My only real concern so far is that I might mess up something on my Blogspot or use it incorrectly.

Technology has most definitely impacted the way we right, and in really good ways. People are able to post things online now so that the whole world can see it, whether it be an article or just a simple forum post. It really inspires people to not only write more, but to post what they're thinking whenever they write. However with this being said a lot of people use it in a negative way to bash someone or just to make hateful comments about anything.
